Develop the use of drawing materials and their properties. Study drawing techniques and application. Develop skills in composition and rendering of visual information. Use of sketchbooks. Some sessions may take place outdoors or in museums.
For people who want to develop basic drawing skills on which they can build
The course is aimed at people a little or no previous experience, or those wanting to go back to basics.
Use a range of drawing materials, including pencil, charcoal, graphite, and pastels. Make drawings from direct observation. Use a range of drawing techniques in a series of drawings. Demonstrate the uses of tone, and use it to to create volume in drawings. Demonstrate the ability to recognise good composition. Use colour informed by knowledge of colour theory. Make drawings that demonstrate eye to brain to hand co-ordination.
Practical sessions. Students will be invited to furthur investigate the subject through exercises given in each lesson on different elements of drawing and drawing materials. Discussion and group discussion of outcome and achievements.
Gallery and museum visits are recommended as are looking at art books in libraries and visiting websites. Drawing practise is advised.
One to one verbal feedback, group discussion and evaluation and written progress recorded on your own Individual Learning Plan and Learning Journal.
Higher level or other courses within the arts e.g. painting or life drawing classes.
Cartridge and some other paper and charcoal are available in class. N.B WHILST THIS COURSE IS BENING DELIVERED ONLINE STUDENTS WILL NEED TO PROVIDE THEIR OWN PAPER. Students should provide their own fixative, masking tape, sketch books and additional drawing materials as necessary. N.B. WHILST THIS COURSE IS ONLINE YOU WILL NEED TO PROVIDE YOUR OWN MATERIALS.
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
