What will the course Cover?

The Award in Counselling Skills qualification covers two units : • Counselling Skills and Personal Development • Using Counselling Skills

Who is this course for?

These qualifications (award and certificate in counselling) are designed for those learners who have had no previous experience of using counselling skills. They are also intended for those who wish to improve their listening and communication skills.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

None but you should have a good command of both spoken and written English. There is an entry interview prior to the start of the course during.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

The qualifications allow learners to make a more informed choice as to whether or not to embark on a demanding vocational training towards a possible career in counselling or an allied career, e.g. welfare advice work, where counselling skills would be useful. Successful learners can also continue onto teh certificate course iof they so wish.

How is the course organised?

All units will be internally assessed, internally and externally moderated via a learner’s portfolio and other related evidence, against the unit outcomes and assessment criteria. Each session will comprise a 2-hour lesson , followed by 1 hour of listening practice and an optional 1 hour for portfolio building and tutorials.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

At least 2 hours a week of additional studying, reserach and writing up.

How will my progress be assessed?

Feedback from tutor (on written assignments and hoemwork as well as classroom performance) and peers (roleplays).

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Tutor will advise on certificate course and other options

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

No other costs beyond the tuition fees.
