This course will proved an introduction to the issues of Loss and Bereavement and to good listening and helping skills. Participants will learn how to be with themselves and others who are going through this process
Anyone who is interested in understanding their own responses to loss or wants to know how to support someone else going through the experience of loss
No previous experience needed
Participants will have better understanding of Their own experiences of loss Some of the theoretical frameworks which try to describe the process which someone may be experiencing The effectiveness of ritual in the greiving process Built on their skills of listening and supporting
The course will include tutor input, gentle exercises to examine how people experience losses in their lives, paired listening and some group work and discussion This is not group therapy and it is an introductory course and participants are encouraged to go at their own pace, not to jump in too deeply as all are likely to be beginners.
There will be background handouts for participants to take away
An assessment at the beginning and ending to ascertain levels of knowledge
People wanting to go further in developing their skills might consider a course with Cruise or a local bereavement agency
No other costs
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme which offers help for speakers of other languages. And support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and or/disabilities. Details are available in the Guide or from teaching or reception staff.
