What will the course Cover?

We will watch 5 subtitled films which offer an overall view of modern Italian history from the period just before unification to one of the first examples of terrorism. - Noi credevamo (165 minutes) - Senso (110 minutes) - La grande guerra (130 minutes) - Una vita difficile (120 minutes) - Romanzo di una strage (124 minutes)

Who is this course for?

Anyone interested in Italian cinema, modern Italian history and discussing these topics in Italian.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

You should have an advanced level of Italian already and able to discuss topics with a certain degree of fluency. This is an online course delievred via Zoom and you would benefit from having the zoom app installed on a laptop or pc (or an iPad /tablet) for a better experience overall.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

You will be able to talk about 5 films and the historical period in which they are set.

How is the course organised?

5 sessions ona Friday afternoon from 13.00 to 16.00. - Brief introduction to the film and the period - viewing the film in Italian with subtitles (also in Italian) - discussion on some of the topics raised by the fims (the length of the discussions will vary depending on the length of teh film)

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

some optional reading in Italian before the sessions.
