Macbeth Centre Open day

Come and join us for a day of free learning, fun activities, and a goody bag. Fun for all the family from arts and crafts and language skills to dance, music and cookery classes.

 

Where: Macbeth Centre, Macbeth Street, London W6 9JJ 

When: Saturday 9th July from 10am to 3pm 

Below is a list of all the activities taking place on the day.  Places are free, however you do need to book to reserve your space as some sessions have limited places.  To book your place on your chosen session go to Book my free taster course.

Children can attend some sessions providing they are accompanied by a parent or carer.  The sessions will be marked with [C6+] next to the course title identifying the suitable age range.

Make a sweet potato curry and flat bread. Ingredients will be provided.

10.00 – 13.00

Jewellery - make a silver stacking ring

 

Learn how to make a simple silver ring, that you can wear home to show off! During this taster session you will learn how to form and size the ring shape, cut the wire using a jewellers saw, use a blowtorch to solder the ring closed, and then refine, texture and polish it to create a great summery bit of sparkle for you to take away, wear and enjoy. Book your place in advance

Piano tasters

 

Whether you'd like to learn to play classical, jazz, pop or any other musical

Singing

 

Join Community choir leader Alison Frosdick to sing your heart out. No previous experience is necessary just a willingness to have a go. Singing is great for making us feel good so whether you are an accomplished singer or only sing in the shower, come to this taster and have fun learning a couple of songs in glorious harmony

Bike Basics [C8+]

 

Come and find out how to keep your bicycle in tip-top condition, safe, and

Caring Careers

 

Come and find out what careers are available in the field of Health, Care and

Teaching, and have an opportunity to ask questions and find out how to start your career journey in this expanding field.

Circuit training

 

Come along and experience what a circuit training class can do for you.

Italian conversation

 

If you wish to practice your Italian speaking skills, come along to this taster. You should have done at least 1 year of Italian classes or have the equivalent level. You will work in pairs, groups and interact with both tutors and fellow learners.

Pottery [C8+]

 

Create your own design and paint a bisque-fired mug/plate/tile in our

10.30 – 13.00

bespoke pottery studio. The piece will then be fired for you to collect later in the week.

13.30 – 15.00

Spanners & Sparks

 

Come and chat to our experienced motor vehicle tutors, check out some vintage cars, and find out about the range of courses available to develop and hone your vehicle repair skills. This is a drop-in session, so come along any time between 11am and 2pm to see what's going on!

Spanish for beginners

 

It's time to learn some Spanish so you can at least say hello, thank you and please in this wonderful language when you next go to Spain or meet a Spanish speaker. The taster is taught by a very experienced French native speaker who will make it fun and enjoyable

Introduction to interpreting

 

What is interpreting all about? How do you become an interpreter? What is the actual job like? Which courses can you do and how much do they cost? You will find the answers to these and more questions during this taster!

Italian for beginners

 

Ever wanted to learn Italian but not sure how difficult it would be? Come along and learn some basic useful everyday phrases and practice with a native speaker teacher

French for beginners

 

It's time to learn some French so you can at least say hello, thank you and please in this wonderful language when you next go to France or meet a French speaker. The taster is taught by a very experienced French native speaker who will make it fun and enjoyable.

Simple Italian cooking

 

This is for anyone who enjoys cooking and speaking Italian at the same time. You will learn how to make a simple dish and enjoy eating at the end with your fellow learners and your Italian teacher!

13.30 – 15.00

Advanced French conversation

 

So, you know French already and wish to practice discussing stimulating topics with fellow learners and the tutor? Well then come along and try this taster. You won't be disappointed.
