SEN Learners - When can you return?

Hi everyone, I hope you are having a lovely summer.

Phased reopening

As part of the preparations for reopening our centres, we were assessed by the councils Recovery board and COVID-19 Health & Safety team, who are making sure that council buildings come out of lockdown safely.

Unfortunately, we’ve been advised that SEN students should not return to the centres until at least the 2nd phase of the return, in January 2021. This is not ideal and I appreciate that it will be very disappointing to many students, parents and carers but the C19 Recovery Board has major concerns that there will be another spike or second phase of C19 in Winter, hence their decision on an extremely cautious approach to a phased return.

I am disappointed but I am also very fearful of an outbreak happening in our classes, so perhaps this additional time will reduce that risk.

We will obviously continue to monitor the phased return in consultation with the COVID-19 H&S team on a week by week basis.

Macbeth@Home in September

We are discussing how we can continue and develop the Macbeth@Home course for the Autumn term, that was rushed into action when Macbeth was closed down. I know it is not the same as face to face classes but we will ensure that there are activities and work for all our learners to do, until we are allowed to return to Macbeth.

The Macbeth@Home course will be slightly different this term as I would like them to be more specialised and also have a bigger range of Zoom classes, for our learners to attend.

To get the most out of these classes we cannot recommend enough that every home has internet access, a computer to use for worksheets and activities, a webcam to take part in Zoom sessions plus willing family members or support staff to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Return to Macbeth in January?

Hopefully we will be able to resume normal, face to face, classes at Macbeth in January and we will make sure everything is in place and ready to start then.

We will try to ensure that all our usual classes are available and that students, who were on classes before lockdown, get to re-join and complete them this year.

I will be in contact with updates as soon as arrangements for September and January are agreed.

Thanks and stay safe!

Sean
