The course will cover the fundamentals of contemporary dance in Release Technique, including floorwork, flow and the use of basic dance qualities.
This is a beginner level course for anyone who is interested in exploring studio techniques and approaches of contemporary dance - no previous experience is needed.
No prior experience is necessary.
Execute fundamental contemporary movements. Demonstrate transitions from one position to another with precision. Apply musicality, different dance qualities and follow the flow. Coordinate arm and leg movements fluidly in combinations. Perform a short contemporary sequence with confidence and expression. Follow contemporary etiquette and discipline in class settings. Understand basic contemporary terminology and use it correctly. Improve spatial awareness and movement quality in performance.
Each session will be structured with a warm-up, the delivery and practice of a few basic exercises and the gradual build-up of a dance routine, on a weekly basis.
Additional practice outside of the course is recommended (if you have the space and time) but not required.
Through observation by the tutor, individual feedback and self- assessment.
Further beginner level courses to build up your contemporary skills – floorwork, use of flow, ability to apply different dance qualities – before progressing on to an improver level contemporary.
Wear comfortable clothing (e.g. joggers, tracksuit, t-shirt) which covers your shoulders and knees. Bring with you a towel and a bottle of water.
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
