Introductory projects to give learners a wide range of experience in drawing and painting techniques and materials.
This is a fully inclusive basic art course that covers a variety of topics and is suitable for people who are new to the subject and want to work at a slower pace or those with moderate learning difficulties and disabilities.
No previous experience is necessary. The course is designed for beginners.
Make simple drawings in using line. Demonstrate proportion in simple compositions. Make simple line drawings using pencil and charcoal. Produce work demonstrating the use of tone in chalks or pastels. Use collage to produce artwork. Use line and tone to suggest solid form. Use waterbased colours in simple paintings. Identify the colour wheel and mix colour. Demonstrate the use of primary, secondary and tertiary colours in small paintings.
Practical workshop sessions with help from the tutor, in which a range of work will be produced throughout the course. You will also be able to work on your own, and to contribute to group discussion.
Using your sketchbook. Gallery visits if possible.
One to one verbal feedback, group discussion and evaluation and written progress recorded on your own Individual Learning Plan and Learning Journal.
Continue with this course to develop your skills further or go on to higher level courses in drawing/painting/life-drawing, or other visual art courses.
Cartridge and some other paper etc. will be available in class.
