What will the course Cover?
Develop ways of seeing and interpreting, working from the figure in a variety of materials and techniques in this important visual art discipline.
Who is this course for?
Those who wish to develop their drawing skills from observation of the human form to improve their drawing skills or to build a portfolio.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
Some experience would be helpful, though not essential. Enthusiasm is very important, as is the willingness to achieve your own learning goals.
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
Recognise the formal elements and relationships of the human figure. Make a range of drawings of the figure, both clothed and unclothed, which clearly express the structure of the human form. Illustrate a clear understanding proportion in life drawings produced. Produce a series of drawings and simple paintings, using a variety of media. Use the centre of gravity to express balance in the structure of the figure. Specify the various styles of making images of the human form from different periods of art history.
How is the course organised?
Practical drawing sessions - long and short poses - individual and group discussion with tutor.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
Gallery and museum visits are recommended as are looking at art books in libraries and visiting websites. Drawing practise is advised.
How will my progress be assessed?
One to one verbal feedback, group discussion and evaluation, written progress and assessment will be recorded on your Individual Learning Plan and in your Learning Journal. Also discussion of each project and its relevance. At the end of term we will evaluate each learner’s work as a whole and discuss individual development
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
Continue with this course or go on to life drawing or painting courses. You could use the work created to help compile a portfolio to help with an application to FE or HE
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
Cartridge and some other paper and charcoal are available in class. Students should provide their own fixative, masking tape, sketch books and additional drawing materials as necessary.
