In this 5-week beginners jewellery making course, learn some of the key jewellery making techniques, working with sheet metal, and wire to create your own customised multi part ring (or set of rings).
Anyone with an interest in jewellery making or craft skills who want to explore new approaches to making. Some experience of jewellery making would be useful but is not essential.
This is a beginners course so no previous experience is necessary.
• Measure, cut and shape copper or brass sheet to form ring bands, • Use hammers and other tools to create surface patterns on the metal • Solder to join the ring seams • Work with files and emery papers to refine and tidy up metal edges or surfaces • Polish the rings ready to wear • Work with wire to make additional rings, either to wear separately, or to stack onto the first ring to create a spinner / fidget ring
This practical course delivered in a specialist jewellery studio and includes talks, demonstrations, practical tasks, group discussions and one-to-one tutoring.
• Tutor feedback. • Group discussions and evaluations. • Progress reported on Individual Learning Plan.

We have basic materials, tools and equipment available for use. Open footwear (e.g. sandals) should not be worn during sessions.
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
