You will be introduced to the use of your camera, and begin to look at techniques including exposure, depth of field and begin to look at techniques including exposure, depth of field, lenses and filters in this practical course. Learners will be introduced to photographic issues and trends.
Beginners who would like to learn basic camera skills and learn about how to produce well crafted photographs.
Minimal skills in photography and enthusiasm. You will need to bring your own digital camera-compact, bridge or SLR.
Recognise and identify the functions and controls on a camera. Name the different types of lenses and how and when to use them. Demonstrate an understanding of the meaning and use of ISO. Demonstrate an ability to take photographs of a variety of subjects in the home or on location. Begin to develop the ability to critically evaluate photographs. In the classroom-group and individual practical sessions. Location shoots, group visits to exhibitions and talks with relevent photographic images and specific DVDs.
Practicing techniques to consolidate understanding, project work, visiting photographic exhibitions, referring to photography books and various websites to build up a wider knowledge base.
Continual assessment and feedback from your tutor and through the use of your Individual Learning Plan and Learning Journal.
Attend the Intermediate and Advanced photography courses at the college. Build a portfolio to use for possible entry to a higher level course in FE or HE.
Possible exhibition/gallery tickets. A USB stick. Each session will require you to bring: camera, lens, memory, battery, instruction manual and a note pad.
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
