To start with we will learn a variety of easy songs/rounds in unison and harmony from a variety of genres with an emphasis on learning by ear. You will not be pigeon-holed into a particular range but have the opportunity to explore your own voice. As the group grows in experience the songs will become more challenging.
Anyone with an interest in singing for fun, pleasure and enjoyment.
No prior experience is necessary.
Feel more confident with your singing voice and ability to listen and learn by ear. Work as part of a group. There may be opportunities for singing at in-house events such as the celebration evening.
Each week we will do a structured warm up focusing on your body, posture, lungs, diaphragm plus stimulating overall circulation. We will cover a range of vocal exercises to warm up the vocal folds and prepare the voice for learning the songs.
Backing tracks and lyrics for all the songs are available via a shared folder which all the group will have access to prior to each session. It is recommended that participants listen to the tracks before the session to familiarise themselves with the tunes/rhythms or any parts which will speed up the learning process.
Through observation by the tutor, individual feedback, self- assessment.
Continue with the choir and build on skills and abilities with more challenging pieces with the aim of building a repertoire for public performance at some stage.
A folder for keeping the song sheets/notes from the classes. A digital recording device can also be useful for recording your particular part, although backing tracks will be available via a shared folder.
Scores can be provided to those learners who are able to read music and find learning by ear particularly difficult.
