During the workshop we will learn some practical tools for improving your singing, breath support and vocal agility plus a number of songs drawn from carol traditions in the UK and beyond that we will perform and record at the end of the day.
Anyone with an interest in harmonious singing for fun, pleasure and enjoyment.
No prior experience is necessary.
Feel more confident with your singing voice. Extend your ability to listen and learn by ear. Work as part of a group.
This is 5-hour workshop and will include a vocal warm up, learning up to 4 songs by ear with time at the end to perform.
This is a one-day workshop – no additional work outside of the session is required.
Through observation by the tutor, individual feedback and self- assessment.
You could join a community choir or sign up for another Saturday workshop.
A folder for keeping the song sheets/notes from the classes. A digital recording device/mobile phone can also be useful for recording your particular part.
Scores can be provided to those learners who are able to read music and find learning by ear particularly difficult. Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
Alison is an experienced choir leader, a Natural Voice Practitioner and member of the folk trio Rumpled Muslin. She loves creating and experimenting with harmony for the groups that she works with and enables individuals to experience this within the different themes and genres of songs taught in the workshops. Whatever your level or ability you will leave the workshop with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.
