What will the course Cover?
Mosaic glass appliqué is an alternative approach to stained glass using small pieces of coloured glass to create a design. No kiln is required so it is a process that can be further develop out of the workshop environment. You will learn how to cut glass into shapes and create a final piece. The process can lead to further exploration into stained glass or other glass art techniques.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
No prior experience required
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
You should be able to safely cut glass using a glass cutting tool. Understand how to design an artwork on a lightbox and translate that into a glass artwork. Learn how to use various coloured glass shapes and pieces to create a cohesive image. Learn to grout your artwork to finish your piece ready for hanging.
How is the course organised?
This is a practical, workshop-based course with tutor demonstrations, short presentations and handouts. You will be supported on a group and one to one through the processes of designing and making a finished piece.
How will my progress be assessed?
• One to one and group feedback. • Individual learning plan. • Photographic and written record of work in progress and finished items.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
You may be interested in stained glass, sandblasting and engraving courses at the Macbeth Centre. Set up facility at home to develop your skills independently. Suppliers’ details will be provided.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
Wear solid footwear (i.e. no sandals or open footwear) Personal Protective Equipment (dust masks, protective gloves) is provided.
What support is available?
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
