Surface decoration, sandblasting and simple dremmel engraving, hand-painted and vinyl resists. We will explore layering, translucency, obscurity and texture through experimental samples and the creation of a finished considered piece.
Anyone interested in glass design, pattern, mark making and texture. It is also suitable for students of stained glass who want to make textural or graphic pieces of glass for their panels.
No prior experience required. You are also welcome to join if you have some experience and more complex ideas.
You will gain hands on experience of a range of techniques with the opportunity to create experimental as well as structured pieces. By the end of the course you will take home a finished decorated flat panel or 3-dimensional vessel. You will be able to confidently demonstrate a range of sandblasting, simple engraving and resist techniques, understanding layering, translucency and surface decoration.
This is a practical, workshop-based course with tutor demonstrations, short presentations and handouts. You will be supported on a group and one to one basis through the processes of designing and making a finished piece and a series of samples.
Collecting imagery and design inspiration to discuss and evolve into a plan for your resists. You are welcome to bring in glass vessels/objects that you might want to decorate.
Through tutor feedback, one-to-one and in group discussions. Progress will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP), which helps track your development and set personal goals.
