The course will cover the L2 syllabus for Functional Skills English. The scheme of work will embed topics, functions and vocabulary, related to employment, education, training and everday life.
This course is for native speakers and learners from a non-English speaking background who have established English language skills at an appropriate level. It is for learners who want to achieve a L1 or L2 Functional Skills qualification to move onto higher level study, apprenticeships, vocational training or into work.
You will have an interview and an initial assessment before joining the class. This will help us to know what your learning level is, your individual needs, and which class is best for you.
You should be able to achieve the Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills English qualification at L2.
The course has classes twice a week.
You will be expected to study outside the class and will get weekly homework to help you. You are encouraged to extend your English learning by studying independently in order to maximise your chance of success in the final exams.
Classroom assessment tasks and tutor marked homework with written and verbal feedback. Your tutor will work with you on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) so you can record your progress. This course is accredited by Pearson Edexcel and if you are successful you will receive a certificate in Functional Skills English at Level 2.
You could progress onto higher level study, apprenticeships, vocational training or into work.
There is no cost for most learners as it is fully funded by the government. However, if you miss 3 lessons your funding will be withdrawn and you will no longer be able to attend the course. You don’t need to bring anything other than a pen, a folder for organising your work and lined writing paper.
AAdditional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties or disabilities, including exam access arrangements. Please let us know at enrolment or inform your tutor as soon as possible so that any support can be put in place in a timely way.
