What will the course Cover?
Language used in the world of digital skills but also phrases to use in emails, presentations, etc. The main focus this term will be on the language used in digital skills with examples and some practice.
Who is this course for?
Learners whose first language is not English and who want to learn how to navigate and use digital devices including smartphones, laptops and PCs. Little experience needed. Please note that this is NOT a general ESOL course so you must have at least Entry 3 level speaking skills to understand the digital skills vocabulary that will be used in class.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
Basic digital skills. You must be able to switch on and off a computer, log in to your emails by yourself. You must also be able to understand basic instructions and have a basic digital skills level as well as E3 English.
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
Navigate a computer and internet independently to execute simple tasks such as sending emails and editing documents. Understand instructions and texts about digital skills.
How is the course organised?
The course runs over 11 weeks. Each session is 2 hours long. It is a combination of whole class teaching practice as well as class assessments.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
Practise at home, review what was covered in the session and complete any assessment given.
How will my progress be assessed?
Class participation, observations, quizzes, end-of-course project.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
You could apply for one of our accredited Digital Skills courses at E3 or L1 and/or take an ESOL couse to improve your English language skills. Speak to your tutor.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
Pens and paper/a notebook to take notes. Possibility to bring your own laptop if you have one. For course fees please see the website or enquire. Most learners will be in recipt of a funded place. You will need to provide evidence of your immigtation stauus in the UK and any benefits or low income.
What support is available?
Regular tutorials with class tutors. Students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities may be provided with some additional support. Please speak to your tutor.
