What will the course Cover?

Our course will help you to develop communicative and transferable English language skills and build your confidence to use those skills in real life. On the course you will learn to speak English with clear pronunciation and appropriate language and register. You will present information to others and engage in discussions, making appropriate contributions and expressing your views. You will obtain and give information and make plans and arrangements. You will also practise your reading and writing skills. There will be the opportunity to take speaking and listening exams on the course if you are ready. The exams are accredited by Trinity and our course content is based on the National Standards for Adult Literacy and is aligned to the Adult ESOL Core Curriculum.

Who is this course for?

ESOL courses are for people who plan to live in the UK permanently and who are working here or actively seeking work here. This course is for ESOL learners working towards intermediate level who want to improve their English language skills and gain a qualification. PLEASE NOTE Our ESOL courses are government funded. By enrolling onto an ESOL course you agree to attend all your classes on time or you may lose your place and not be offered another course in the future. ESOL courses are for people who plan to live in the UK permanently and who are working here or actively seeking work here. This course is for ESOL learners at Level 1, 2 or above, who want to boost their conversation skills and gain fluency as well as accuracy. PLEASE NOTE Our ESOL courses are government funded. What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

You should have established speaking and listening skills at E2.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

You should be able to pass ESOL speaking & listening exams at E3. Your teacher will let you know which exams you will be taking if you are ready.

How is the course organised?

Classes are 2.5 hours and are twice a week for 18 weeks.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Your teacher will give you homework. This will help you to make progress. The recommended hours to pass ESOL E3 speaking & listening are 120. Your course is 90 hours, so you will also need to work at home.

How will my progress be assessed?

Through class work and homework and regular assessment by the teacher.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

ESOL L1 Speaking & Listening or a Reading & Writing course.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

There may be a charge for your class but most learners on benefits or a low income are funded by the government and do not pay. Please enquire at interview or see the website for more details.

What support is available?

Please let your teacher know if you need any in class support or exam access arrangements as soon as possible so we can put support in place if possible.
