The course will cover the entry level syllabus for Functional Skills Maths including: ✔ Addition and subtraction ✔ Multiplication and division ✔ Rounding ✔ Order of operations ✔ Numbers, including decimals and negative numbers. ✔ Fractions ✔ Draw and extract information from tables and graphs
Anyone with a low level of mathematical knowledge who wants to develop their skill and gain a maths qualification in order to progress to a Level1/Level 2 Functional Skills course in the future.
You will have an interview and an initial assessment before joining the class. This will help us to know what your learning level is, your individual needs, and which class is best for you.
You should be able to achieve a Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Maths qualification at an entry level.
The course is for 17 weeks, attending 2 classes per week, with exams at the end of the course. If you are not ready to sit the exams at the end of a semester and need more time to study, you will be offered the chance to have another semester of classes before sitting your exams. You are expected to attend at least 90% of your lessons and to sit all of the exams if required.
You will be expected to study outside the class and will get weekly homework to help you. You are encouraged to extend your Maths learning by studying independently in order to maximise your chance of success in the final exams.
Classroom assessment tasks and tutor marked homework with written and verbal feedback. Your tutor will work with you on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) so you can record your progress. This course is accredited by Pearson Edexcel and if you are successful you will receive a certificate in Functional Skills Maths at entry level.
You could progress onto a higher level. For example, if you are successful at E3 you will be able to apply for the L1 course.
There is no cost for most learners as it is fully funded by the government. However, if you miss 3 lessons your funding will be withdrawn and you will no longer be able to attend the course. You don’t need to bring anything other than a pen, a folder for organising your work and lined writing paper.
Additional support may be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Please ask your at enrolment or tell the tutor as soon as possible as you may also be entitled to exam access arrangements.
A highly qualified and experienced tutor.
