What will the course Cover?
This course leads to the Level 1 Signature Award in BSL. To achieve the Award, learners will need to cover and pass all 3 units: 101, 102 & 103 by end of July. All learners will be required to book an interview prior to enrolment.
Who is this course for?
The British Sign Language Level 1 Signature award is suitable for learners who have already successfully completed term 1 or an introduction in BSL. This is an accredited course.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
You should already have a basic knowledge of BSL or have completed term 1 or an introduction to BSL.
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
You should be able to receive and produce basic signs in accordance with British Sign Language Signature Award, Units 101, 102 & 103.
How is the course organised?
This is a 22 week accredited course in Level 1 Award in British Sign Language, which takes place one evening a week at Macbeth Centre.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
Learners are expected to consolidate their class learning and complete any set homework as advised by the tutor.
How will my progress be assessed?
The Signature BSL Level 1 award assesses a learner's ability to communicate in BSL on simple, everyday topics. To achieve the BSL Level 1 Signature qualification, learners will need to sit all 3 units: 101, 102 & 103 by end of July. All learners will be required to book an interview prior to enrolment.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
Level 2 British Sign Language Award.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
No extra costs. Just bring a pen.
What support is available?
Help with literacy and numeracy is available through the basic education programme. The ESOL programme offers help to speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
