Who is this course for?
Our summer BSL course is the perfect start to British Sign Language (BSL) for those who are not ready to commit to a full course or just want to learn some basics for fun!
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
This short course is for complete beginners. No previous knowledge of BSL is required.
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
By the end of the course, you should be able to: • Learn how to sign the BSL alphabet and spell out names. • Recognise some signs for greetings. • Be able to introduce yourself and take part in simple basic conversations in BSL.
• Identify signs for colours. • Follow signs for numbers 1-20. • Gain an understanding of deaf awareness.
How is the course organised?
This course takes place over 2 weeks. Our course focuses on signed interaction and communication. Through tutor demonstration, and role play with tutor guidance and feedback. Typical activities include: • Interactive teaching • Pair/group work • Role plays • Questions and answers

How will my progress be assessed?
Tutor assessed and will give feedback.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
Introduction to BSL Level 1 from September.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
There will be no additional costs for this course. You can bring your pen and notepad if you wish.
