Our summer BSL course is the perfect start to British Sign Language (BSL) for those who are not ready to commit to a full course or just want to learn some basics for fun!
This short course is for complete beginners. No previous knowledge of BSL is required.
By the end of the course, you should be able to: • Learn how to sign the BSL alphabet and spell out names. • Recognise some signs for greetings. • Be able to introduce yourself and take part in simple basic conversations in BSL. • Identify signs for colours. • Follow signs for numbers 1-20. • Gain an understanding of deaf awareness.
This course takes place over 2 weeks. Our course focuses on signed interaction and communication. Through tutor demonstration, and role play with tutor guidance and feedback. Typical activities include: • Interactive teaching • Pair/group work • Role plays • Questions and answers • Feedback

Introduction to BSL Level 1 from September.
There will be no additional costs for this course. You can bring your pen and notepad if you wish.
We can provide extra support for learners with additional needs. Details of all available support can be found on our website (hfals.ac.uk) or from reception staff.
