What will the course Cover?
This Preparation for IELTS course covers all four sections of the IELTS test: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. It also focuses on teaching test-taking strategies with exam practice papers.
Who is this course for?
Suitable for learners with an intermediate knowledge of English, this IELTS preparation course will prepare you for any English language university entrance test or for the language skills required in employment. It will also guide you on how to book your IELTS exam and recommend the best IELTS exam version for you- General or Academic.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
To enrol on this course, you should have proof of at least a Level 1 certificate in written English (either Functional Skills or GCSE Foundation or ESOL written Level 2) as well as complete the Pre-enrolment assessment. Students who do not possess an English certificate at the required entry level will be assessed prior to the course for their suitability. If interested, please contact maria.mavrommatis@lbhf.gov.uk
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
You will have learnt the skills and strategies required for passing an IELTS exam.
How is the course organised?
This is an 11 week intensive university English language entry preparation course, which takes place twice a week in the evening.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
Complete set reading/homework as advised by your tutor.
How will my progress be assessed?
You will be assessed through various class work and homework activities. The tutor will assist you in setting individual learning targets at the start and will support you as you work towards them through the course.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
If ready you can apply to sit the IELTS exam externally.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
Please bring pen and a notebook/ paper to write on. Tutor will advise if a textbook is required and where to purchase it.
What support is available?
Help with literacy and numeracy is available through the basic education programme. The ESOL programme offers help to speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
