This course will cover employment skills and develop learners skills for life, through in class projects and activities. Learners will also be set thier own individual goals that will be monitored throughout the year.
The pre-employment classes are ideal for people with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities who are able to commit to a long term learning programme and happy to work independently
Experience of working in a group is an advantage. Learners must also be able to behave appropriately in an adult education class.
Learners will have completed their own accreditation portfolios and worked towards a number of personal and class goals.
The Pre Employment Skills programme allows learners to attend a range of classes to help build skills for independent living and employment. The courses run for one year starting in September and require a pre course interview where a minimum of 3 courses are selected. Classes include Literacy, Numeracy, Independent Living, IT and Communication Skills.
Learners are encouraged to use the skills learnt on the course at home and in their lives
Learners will have an individual learning plan with realistic targets for both personal and class goals. They will be encouraged to review these targets with the tutor and understand their learning goals. Once a goal is achieved a new one will be set. Worksheets will be marked in class and kept to show the learner how they have progressed during the course. Learners will be able to say how they feel about the class during the course and at the end of the year. Learners will produce evidence towards their accreditation goals. This may be in the form of photographs, video or worksheets.
Ideally learners will be moving into paid, or voluntary, supported work placements. Learners can also progress onto other SEN courses, Inclusive classes or mainstream provision
Accreditation and materials fees are included in the cost. The course is free if you are in reciept of certain benefits, which will be discussed at pre course interviews.
There is a Learning Support Assistant in every class to give special help where needed and support the tutor in class, along with learners own personal support if necessary. Specialist aids are also available such as hearing loops, roller-ball mice, large and keyboards. Makaton symbols and images are used where possible to help understanding. Senior Learning Support Assistants are available to support with enrolling, information, guidance and communicating with learners homes. Tutors who have the same learner will also work together to make sure all teaching and support is pulling the same way across all their classes.
