On this course you will get to build up your fitness, chat and socialise with your fellow walkers, explore local walking routes, see some of the beautiful parks in the borough and take part in trips to walk in other places in London. Outdoor walking groups have wide-ranging health benefits including reducing blood pressure, body fat, total cholesterol, and risk of depression, plus they are really fun!
Learners who enjoy walking and talking. Learners who may need 1:1 support and/or find it challenging to engage in group activities may need to attend with a support worker.
No previous experience is necessary
Make progress according to your own specific goals, support fellow students and increase fitness.
Learners will have an interview before joining the class. Each session will include a walk to a different local area. Tutors encourage independence and give support to each individual learner as appropriate. Support workers/parents join in the class.
Learners will increase their fitness and be able to go on longer walks
Your tutor will assess your starting point and develop your Individual Learning Plan. Throughout the course you will be assessed by your tutor and LSA against the course and your own personal goals. Evidence will be taken throughout the course including worksheets, photo’s and video’s. Learners will have the opportunity to evaluate their own work and that of the other learners.
Learners can continue with the class at the same level, move onto the Pre-Employment Skills project, progress to Employment based courses or onto Inclusive classes or mainstream provision.
Comfortable clothes and shoes
There is a Learning Support Assistant in every class to give special help where needed and support the tutor in class, along with learners’ own personal support if necessary. Senior Learning Support Assistants are available to support with enrolling, information, guidance and communicating with learners homes.
