Celebrate Black History Month at the Macbeth Centre

Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 October 2026 | 10am to 3pm | Free Entry

Join us at the Macbeth Centre this October for three days of free activities, talks, workshops and cultural experiences celebrating Black History Month. Whether you're interested in local history, creative arts, health and wellbeing, music, food or inspiring conversations, there's something for everyone.

Most activities are drop-in, so you can come along and take part whenever suits you. No booking is required unless stated otherwise. 

What's On 

Arts, Music and Creativity

Get involved in creative activities celebrating Black culture:

  • Spoken Word and Rap Writing sessions with musician Lucas Haughton.
  • Family-friendly Carnival Arts Workshops, exploring African fabrics, mixed-media art and carnival-inspired design.
  • Live performances from the New Generation Steel Orchestra, bringing the vibrant sounds of the Caribbean to the Macbeth Centre. 

Food and Flavours

Experience the tastes and traditions of the Caribbean and Africa through our food-themed activities:

  • Adult and family Caribbean Cookery Workshops*, where participants will learn to prepare delicious dishes and treats. Book Now
  • African Superfoods and Their Global Influence*, featuring tastings and practical activities. Book Now
  • Jerk Corner, serving authentic Caribbean favourites including jerk chicken, curry goat, rice and peas, alongside vegetarian options. Food will be available to purchase. 

*Due to limited capacity the cookery workshops must be booked in advance to secure your place.

Inspiring Talks and Conversations

Hear from acclaimed guests and community voices throughout the event, including:

  • Storytelling with Stella Oni, crime fiction author and storyteller.
  • In Conversation with Tina Andrews, award-winning author and screenwriter.
  • Black History Trail events and guided poster tours led by heritage officer Gaverne Bennett, exploring Hammersmith & Fulham's rich Black heritage.

Health and Wellbeing

Take some time for yourself with free wellbeing activities, including:

  • Beginners' Ballet, a fun and welcoming session open to all ages and abilities.
  • Glow with Confidence: A Black History Month Skincare Experience, offering practical skincare advice and wellbeing tips. 

Booking Information

Most sessions are free and available on a drop-in basis, with no booking necessary. 

However, places on the Caribbean Cookery Workshops are limited and must be booked in advance. Participants will also be asked to provide details of any food allergies when booking.
