ALSS learners at the Queens Jubilee Carnival

To celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee, Adult Learning and Skills Service partnered with Mandinga Arts, Emergency Exit Arts and Rhythms of the City to send a group of learners to be part of the Queens Jubilee carnival last weekend.

They had three rehearsals at our Macbeth Centre, to prepare for the carnival, with choreographers from the pageant Julia Testa, Manuela Benini and Mari Pinho. Dances were choreographed for the various songs that were going to be played and everyone was fitted for their bull and cow costumes.

On the day our group travelled to the meeting point Victoria Embankment Gardens, where they had their faces painted, got into their costumes and had a good dancing warm up, before heading out and performing in the carnival procession, that was shown live on the BBC!

The students were Mark Kamara, Jonah Bristol and Jacintha Whitter-Hall and they were accompanied by our Drama tutor Anna Kantaraki and carer Zahra Abdesselam.

It was an amazing day for everyone involved!
