What will the course Cover?
This course will focus on building confidence in skill areas that are required to effectively complete the Level 1, such as file management, uploading documents, screenshots etc. It will also cover a basic introduction to Microsoft products: PowerPoint and Excel. The course will be responsive to learner needs to ensure everyone is prepared to progress.
Who is this course for?
This is a course to bridge the gap from Essential digital skills Entry 3 to Level 1 and prepare you to take the Level 1 qualification course in the future. It includes an introduction to Excel, PowerPoint and more features of Microsoft Word. PLEASE NOTE Our IT courses are government funded. By enrolling onto an IT course, you agree to attend all your classes on time, or you may lose your place and not be offered another course in the future.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
To get the most from this course, you: • Should ideally have completed the Essential digital skills entry 3 course • Should be comfortable using a keyboard and mouse, have some experience using a computer or tablet, are familiar with emails, have a basic knowledge of creating a simple document and can create folders and save files confidently. • will also need to be working towards at least Level 1 in English/ESOL. • will need access to a computer/laptop and the internet to practice and apply your new skills. • Are required to have a pre-course assessment to access this course – please book an interview slot and you will be contacted about arranging this.
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
• Interact with and use a computer to perform various tasks • Store and retrieve information accurately and effectively • Follow safety and security practices • Use different search techniques to find information • Create and edit PowerPoint files • Create and edit Excel files • Edit Microsoft Word documents including adding Tables, image captions and more.
How is the course organised?
Classes are face to face once a week and include explanations, tasks, demonstrations, discussions, and lots of hands on practise.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
To gain the maximum benefit, you should read recommended books and websites, and practice the topics covered during the class each week – the more you practice, the faster your skills will improve. Computer access is available at your local library.
How will my progress be assessed?
Your tutor will set ILP targets with you and provide feedback.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
You can progress to the Level 1 Essential Digital Skills course or do a more specific course that focuses on one piece of software, for example, Word Processing or Excel, depending on your needs and interests.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
There is no cost for most learners as it is fully funded by the government. However, if you miss 3 lessons your funding will be withdrawn and you will no longer be able to attend the course or possibly join any future courses. Bring a pen and notebook if you want to take notes. Your tutor will help you find and access online resources to support your learning throughout the course.
