What will the course Cover?
Our course will help you to develop communicative and transferable English language skills and build your confidence to use those skills in real life. On the course you will cover reading for information and recognising text purpose. You will also plan writing for a given audience; structuring your writing into paragraphs and using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. You will be able to recognise and use formal and informal register and complete more complex forms. You will also practise your speaking and listening skills in everyday conversation. There will be the opportunity to take reading and writing exams on the course if you are ready. The exams are accredited by Trinity and our course content is based on the National Standards for Adult Literacy and is aligned to the Adult ESOL Core Curriculum.
Who is this course for?
ESOL courses are for people who plan to live in the UK permanently and who are working here or actively seeking work here. This course is for ESOL learners working towards intermediate level who have established English language skills at E2 and who want to improve their English and gain a qualification. PLEASE NOTE Our ESOL courses are government funded. By enrolling onto an ESOL course you agree to attend all your classes on time, or you may lose your place and not be offered another course in the future. This is an exam-based course, so by enrolling you also agree to take any exams on the dates and times your teacher gives you.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
You should have established reading and writing skills at E2.
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
You should be able to pass ESOL reading and/or writing exams at E3. Your teacher will let you know which exams you will be taking if you are ready.
How is the course organised?
Classes are 2.5 hours and are twice a week for 18 weeks.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
Your teacher will give you homework. This will help you to make progress. The recommended hours to pass ESOL E3 reading and writing are 150. Your course is 90 hours, so you will also need to work at home.
How will my progress be assessed?
Through class work and homework and regular assessment by the teacher.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
ESOL L1 Reading & Writing or an ESOL Speaking & Listening course.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
There may be a charge for your class but most learners on benefits or a low income are funded by the government and do not pay. Please enquire at interview or see the website for more details. Please bring pens and paper to class.
