Upcycling old clothing using fabric paint, sew on appliqués, block printing, screen printing, hand made pom-poms and tassels, hand-stitching methods, fabric patches and stencilling.

You should be able to make something old and worn out, look vibrant, creative and unique.
This is a 3 week course. The tutor will show examples of old clothing that has been upcycled using various methods. She will demonstrate the methods and teach the students how to apply these to old clothing. Students will sketch out their ideas before applying any method to fabric. Week 1 painting, stencilling and block printing on fabric Week 2 sewing patches and ric rack onto clothing Week 3 Making pom poms and tassles to add onto clothing.
You can bring your projects home and work on them during the week. You can also sketch ideas in your sketch books.
The tutor will access the work that each student creates and give them feed back.

You will need to bring old clothing in to class or use fabric scraps that will be provided by the centre. A sketch book and a pencil is also very useful.

Trisha Krauss is an award winning illustrator who is known for her use of pattern in her illustrations. She illustrated a column in The NY Times for many years and has written and illustrated children’s books. Her textiles are adorned with vibrant colours, and her whimsical drawings. She teaches IIlustration, Screen Printing and Block Printing at Macbeth Centre as well as a Beginners Art Club at Chiswick Art School. www.trishakrauss.com
