What will the course Cover?
This qualification enables learners to develop knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia. Successful completion of the units will allow learners to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of dementia and its effects. types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis person-centred approaches in dementia care the role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support the use of medication to support individuals with dementia.
Who is this course for?
This qualification is designed for learners who want to develop their knowledge and understanding of dementia and dementia care.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, learners must have a minimum literacy proficiency of Level 1
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
This qualification will support progression into relevant employment within the health and social care sector. The qualification doesn’t infer competence in the work role, but can be used to support the underpinning knowledge and understanding needed for those working in or towards a dementia care role Learners can also progress to : Level 3 Certificate in Working in the Health Sector Level 3 Diploma in Adult care Level 4 qualifications in Health and Social Care.
How is the course organised?
Classes will be online and will involve being actively involved in discussions, making use of breakout rooms, where you will work in groups. Learners will be given topics to research and present to the whole group
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
To gain the maximum benefit, you should read recommended books and websites, and practice the topics covered during the class each week – the more you practice, the faster your skills will improve. Computer access is available at Study Support sessions at Macbeth centre, or at your local library.
How will my progress be assessed?
Informal feedback but tasks will help you decide what else you need to learn or practise. The tutor may provide homework or specific tasks to assess your progress. There will be regular opportunities to review your progress throughout the class To be awarded the Level 3 Dementia qualification, Learners must pass all the set assignments by NCFE.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
A pen and notebook, a file folder to store handouts, and a USB key if you want to take your work home with you (your tutor can give you advice on purchasing USB keys). If you are comfortable using the Internet, there are some helpful online sites, which will be shared at the end of every session.
What support is available?
You may wish to get additional help and guidance offered through the free Study Support Sessions at the Macbeth Centre. At these sessions you can access the internet, work on and print homework and assignments for your course, research, access a range of software, improve your typing and practice/review what you have covered in class. You will need to book a place on these sessions – ask your tutor how. Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages.
