What will the course Cover?
The Certificate in Counselling Skills qualification covers two additional units : Introduction to Counselling Skills Theories and Divisity and Ethics in the Use of Counselling Skills.
Who is this course for?
The Counselling Level 2 Certificate is designed for those learners who have completed the Counselling Level 2 Award. They are also intended for those who wish to improve their listening and communication skills.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
You should have successfully completed the Award in counselling skills before embarking on this course. If you have studied the Award elsewhere, you still need a Level 2 certificate in English either Functional Skills English Level 2 or at least GCSE English grade 4 or equivalent. Please bring along your English certificate to the interview.
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
The Counselling Level 2 Certificate allows learners to make a more informed choice as to whether or not to embark on a demanding vocational training towards a possible career in counselling or an allied career, e.g. welfare advice work, where counselling skills would be useful. Successful learners can also continue onto the Counselling Level 3 Certificate course if they so wish.
How is the course organised?
This course is organised over 17 weeks, meeting once per week.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
You will be expected to work on your portfolio of assignments for assessment.
How will my progress be assessed?
All units will be assessed by the tutor and by internal and external moderators. You will produce a portfolio of evidence for example; observations, witness statements, group discussion observation sheets, case studies, reports/notes.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
Counselling Level 3 Certificate in September.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
Please bring along a paper and pen. The tutor will advise on any resources required.
What support is available?
Help with literacy and numeracy is available through the basic education programme. The ESOL programme offers help to speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
