What will the course Cover?

Genre Approaches to Writing Whose Story? Through whose eyes will the story be told? Theme: Past or Present? Creating Characters Plots – what do you wish to convey? Settings – this is the backdrop to which your characters interact

Who is this course for?

Anyone over 18 wanting to write or continue a novel.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

None required, apart from a competent standard of written and spoken English. An interest in writing regularly, telling your story, and being able to create the time to write.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

You will have a good understanding of the elements of novel writing, including tone, and voice. You will have created realistic characters You will have started a first draft of your masterpiece. You will know or be thinking about your next move in developing your writing.

How is the course organised?

We always begin a lesson with an ice-breaker. We start of with encouragement through a simple exercise. Power Point presentation featuring information about novel writing. Learners will be given writing exercises and prompts to assist in navigating their imagination and creativity onto the page.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Learners are expected to create time to write regularly and will be given homework

How will my progress be assessed?

Progress will be assessed by tutor’s feedback on class contribution and written assessments.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Tutor will advise.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

There should be no further cost. Learners must come equipped ready to write with writing tools of their preference, i.e. note pad/pen or iPad/laptop. Learners will be receiving a certificate of attendance to acknowledge they completed the novel writing course.

What support is available?

Learners will be encouraged (only if they want) to share their work and receive feedback on Padlet. The tutor will give individual feedback on progress over the course.
