Who is this course for?
New to writing, intermediate and seasoned writers. For people who have a story inside and want to get it out. For people who want to leave a legacy. For people who want to write in a non-judgmental ambience.
What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
None required, apart from a competent standard of written and spoken English
What should I be able to do by the end of the course?
By the end of the course, you will know your writing process; that is where best you write, when best you write, and what best you write. You will have created your own writing mission, which enhances your well-being You will know what inspires and motivates you to write You will have started the first chapter of your masterpiece
How is the course organised?
The course is informal but structured so that students will have the opportunity to share their week/work. I will then distribute information via a power point presentation, after which a Q&A will run and students will end with at least half an hour time to write on their personal project.
What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?
Students will need to create time to write at home. This will become easier after defining their writing process.
How will my progress be assessed?
Creativity is non-judgmental. Students will be given feedback, critique, suggestions on improving their work, or even referrals.
What can I expect to go on to after this course?
After completing this course, students will be ready to work steadily on completing a first draft of a body of work, be it a novel, short story, memoir or autobiography.
Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?
There should be no further cost.
What support is available?
Help with literacy or numeracy is available through the basic education programme and the ESOL programme offers help for speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the Prospectus and from teaching or reception staff.
