What will the course Cover?

This taster will cover greetings, introductions & fingerspelling the alphabet in BSL.

Who is this course for?

This British Sign Language taster is for anyone interested in learning a few basics in BSL. Suitable for learners who are complete beginners in BSL.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

No previous knowledge required.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

You will be able to receive and produce basic signs, fingerspell (the manual alphabet), and ask and answer simple questions in BSL.

How is the course organised?

This is a 2 hour taster session on National BSL Day.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

N/A

How will my progress be assessed?

You will be assessed through receptive and productive class activites in BSL.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

You can go onto the short British Sign Language Beginners (Entry 2) SEG award.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

No extra costs. Just bring a pen.

What support is available?

Help with literacy and numeracy is available through the basic education programme. The ESOL programme offers help to speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
