On this intermediate Italian course you will learn to communicate on a range of topics relating to local area, holiday & travel such as talking about amenities in your local area, revising directions/commands, public transport locally & abroad, weather, services in shops including complaints, visitor information & accommodation etc. You will cover all 4 language skills as well as present, future, past tenses & timeframes.
Suitable for anyone who has already completed Italian Level 2 (Intermediate) Part 1 or who wishes to build on their intermediate Italian. - Develop confident communication in Italian across listening, speaking, reading, and writing - Build a strong foundation for further language study, grammar structure and wider range of vocabulary
Completed Italian Level 2 Part 1 or have intermediate knowledge of the language or two years of studying Italian. Enthusiasm for the language and a willingness to participate actively are essential.
You should be able to ask questions, discuss & respond to information in intermediate Italian on the topic of local area, holiday & travel such as describing amenities in your local area, revising directions/commands, enquiring about public transport locally & abroad, describing weather, enquiring about services in shops including making complaints etc. Please note that there is the option to take the GCSE exam, to include the following Language skills: Listening Understanding spoken Italian 25% Speaking Role-play, photo card, general conversation 25% Reading Understanding, translation into English 25% Writing Structured tasks, translation into Italian 25% Topics to prepare for as below: Family, relationships, technology, free time, festivals Home and region, travel and tourism, social issues School life, education, jobs, career plans There is an additional exam fee to pay, set at £55.
This is an 11 week Italian Level 2 Part 2 course meeting once a week. If doing the exam, learners will receive additional tutorial time. It is expected that students attend 90% and complete additional / independent learning when assigned.
Continuous homework tasks, including written presentations, grammar tasks, online and interactive exercises, video comprehension tasks to improve listening.
This course needs your active participation - you have to be prepared to have a go! You'll be encouraged to speak as much as possible in class, to work in small groups and pairs, to work each lesson on all 4 skills: listening and understanding, speaking, reading and writing. Italian Level 2 Part 3 or continuation of GCSE course.
Textbook (copies of) and other studying materials will be provided by the tutor, including practice papers.
Help with preparing for each skill will be ongoing, weekly during lessons and with tutorials closer to exam dates. Help with literacy and numeracy is available through the basic education programme. The ESOL programme offers help to speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
