What will the course Cover?

On this course you will learn 'simple' Japanese to be able to communicate in a range of settings & on familiar topics such as personal information, home & surroundings, family information, numbers & numerical information & when in a restaurant. You will cover all 4 language skills as well as use/recognise the simplest way of expressing present tense, past tense, simple future.

Who is this course for?

Suitable for anyone who has already completed Beginners Parts 1-3 or who has approx 6-9 months Beginners knowledge of the language, wishing to acquire a lower intermediate level of the language.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

Have already studied a Beginners course in the language or equivalent knowledge, particularly hiragana and katakana.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

You should be able to ask & respond to questions in simple Japanese on personal information, home & surroundings, family information, numbers & numerical information & when in a restaurant.

How is the course organised?

This is an 11 week Japanese lower intermediate course, which takes place once a week.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

Learners are expected to consolidate their class learning and complete any set homework as advised by the tutor.

How will my progress be assessed?

You will be assessed through various class work and homework activities. The tutor will assist you in setting individual learning targets at the start and will support you as you work towards them through the course.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Japanese Level 1 Part 2

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

Please bring along a paper and pen. The tutor will advise on any resources required.

What support is available?

Help with literacy and numeracy is available through the basic education programme. The ESOL programme offers help to speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
