What will the course Cover?

The Memory Cafe can offer a variety of activities, such as music, arts and crafts, storytelling, and gentle exercise, designed to stimulate minds and encourage reminiscence.

Who is this course for?

This Memory Café is suitable for individuals living with dementia or memory loss, as well as their caregivers, families, and friends.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

No previous knowledge is necessary to join, but please check with your GP if you have any old or new injuries.

What should I be able to do by the end of the course?

By the end of the course, you should be able to socialize, share memories, and engage in activities designed to stimulate cognitive function while enjoying refreshments and support from others who understand dementia.

How is the course organised?

The course is organised over 6 weeks, meeting for one hour once a week.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

As individuals progress, home exercise will be recommended by the tutor.

How will my progress be assessed?

The tutor will assess you against the class & your individual learning targets by helping you self assess and reflect on your own progression.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Progression within the courses enables learners to progress onto our termly Agewell courses. Your tutor will advise.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

No extra costs. Please come along in comfortable and suitable clothing for an exercise class. You may like to bring a bottle of water.

What support is available?

Help with literacy and numeracy is available through the basic education programme. The ESOL programme offers help to speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
