This course enables learners, who have mobility restrictions to still benefit from physical activity and exercise. Chair exercises are a way to get physically fit and strengthen certain areas of the body that may benefit people with mobility problems.
This course is for all adult learners wishing to learn how to exercise by using chair based exercises.
No previous knowledge is necessary to join, but please check with your GP if you have any old or new injuries.
You'll be able to comfortably perform a variety of chair-based exercises to improve your cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, and balance. You'll likely also be able to incorporate these exercises into a regular routine and understand how they can contribute to overall well-being, especially for those with limited mobility.
This course is a 6 week Tuesday evening course.
As individuals progress, home exercise will be recommended by the tutor.
Each learner is required to complete a health questionnaire and/or initial assessment from which the tutor will assist you in setting individual targets for progression within the class. The tutor will assess against the class targets and learners are expected to self assess and reflect on their own progression.
Progression within the courses enables learners to progress onto our termly Agewell courses. Your tutor will advise.
No extra costs. Please come along in comfortable and suitable clothing for an exercise class. You may like to bring a bottle of water.
Help with literacy and numeracy is available through the basic education programme. The ESOL programme offers help to speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
