A Cheng Man Ching Tai Chi beginners course typically introduces the fundamental principles of Tai Chi through simplified movements, focusing on balance, coordination, and relaxation. The course will cover basic postures, stances, and movement sequences, potentially including an introduction to the Short Form (37 postures) and associated health-promoting exercises.
This course is suitable for individuals who are new to Tai Chi or seeking to improve their health and well-being through this gentle, restorative practice. It's particularly well-suited for those over 60 who may have limited prior experience.
No previous knowledge is necessary to join, but please check with your GP if you have any old or new injuries.
By the end of a Cheng Man Ching Tai Chi beginners course, you should be able to confidently practice the core movements of the form independently, with a deeper understanding of the benefits and applications of the exercises.
The course is organised over 11 weeks, meeting for one hour once a week.
As individuals progress, home exercise will be recommended by the tutor.
Each learner is required to complete a health questionnaire and/or initial assessment from which the tutor will assist you in setting individual targets for progression within the class. The tutor will assess against the class targets and learners are expected to self assess and reflect on their own progression.
Progression within the courses enables learners to progress onto our termly Agewell courses. Your tutor will advise.
No extra costs. Please come along in comfortable and suitable clothing for an exercise class. You may like to bring a bottle of water.
Help with literacy and numeracy is available through the basic education programme. The ESOL programme offers help to speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
