This course focuses on fundamental poses and breathing techniques, making it accessible and beneficial for improving flexibility, strength, and mental well-being.
Hatha Yoga is a gentle and beginner-friendly style of yoga suitable for individuals of all levels, including complete beginners, those looking to improve their practice, and those seeking a more gentle and relaxing experience.
No previous knowledge is necessary to join, but please check with your GP if you have any old or new injuries.
By the end of this Hatha Yoga course, you should be able to understand the fundamental principles of Hatha Yoga, including its theory and philosophy, and be able to apply them in your practice. You should also be familiar with various asanas (poses), pranayama (breathing techniques), and meditation practices. Additionally, you should be able to perform basic sequences like Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations) and practice different postures, such as classical standing postures and inverted postures.
The course is organised over 11 weeks, meeting for one hour once a week.
As individuals progress, home exercise will be recommended by the tutor.
Each learner is required to complete a health questionnaire and/or initial assessment from which the tutor will assist you in setting individual targets for progression within the class. The tutor will assess against the class targets and learners are expected to self assess and reflect on their own progression.
Progression within the courses enables learners to progress onto our termly Agewell courses. Your tutor will advise.
No extra costs. Please come along in comfortable and suitable clothing for an exercise class. You may like to bring a bottle of water.
Help with literacy and numeracy is available through the basic education programme. The ESOL programme offers help to speakers of other languages. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Details are available from the ALSS course guide and from teaching or reception staff.
