Getting around Bikes 

Fancy getting to know your way around repairing your own vehicles, saving money and time?

We believe everybody should be able to maintain their bike whether it’s just a puncture repair or a full on drive-chain clean. Our maintenance courses, work in two levels from courses for total beginners, to ones for people who know a little already. Please see below to see which suits your needs best

 

Bicycle maintenance part 1

  • What will the course Cover?
    This course covers key components of your bicycle and how to maintain them in good working order - Safety inspection, Adjustment of handlebars and stem, Brakes, gears - the importance of cables, Adjustment of saddle and seat post, Wheel removal and re-fitting, puncture repairs, recommendations for routine servicing.
  • Who is this course for?
    All bicycle users or anyone who wants to learn more about bicycles, how they work and how to maintain and use them in a safe condition.

Bicycle maintenance part 2

  • What will the course Cover?
    This course covers key components of your bicycle and how to maintain them in good working order - Safety inspection, Adjustment and replacing of brakes, cables and pads; adjustment and fitting of new cables and fine tuning of front and rear gear mechanisms; servicing and adjustment of headset; adjustment and maintenance of hubs; assessing wheel faults, truing of slightly buckled wheels while in the frame plus recommendation for routine servicing. NB: Hydraulic brake servicing is not covered in this course.
  • What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?
    All you need to start this course is a keen interest in bicycles plus some basic knowledge such as puncture repairs, wheel removal & refitting and handlebar adjustment is all you need to make the most of this level 2 course.

City & Guilds Bicycle maintenance level 1 award

  • What will the course Cover?
    This course covers the basics of the knowledge and skills required for employment opportunities in the cycle maintenance and building sector, or for personal use.
  • Who is this course for?
    If you have a desire to become a fully qualified cycle technician working in a busy bike workshop, or just get really good foundation skills to keep your own bike working well, then this course is for you.
